REMOVING THE STUFFINESS FROM LITERARY FICTION

Some writers of literary fiction kill me with their pretentious stuffiness.  The ones with the kind of attitude that says, “Only serious writers of serious fiction seriously count for anything.  Seriously.”  To counter that kind of attitude, I highly recommend the hilarious thread on the NaNoWriMo site under the Literary Fiction genre called, “You know you’re writing literary fiction when….”  Here’s a link to it; it’s a hoot.  :)   Even if you do write serious literary fiction.  Seriously.

P.S.  Although my NaNoWriMo novel will be literary fiction, I’m not stuffy, pretentious, or condescending.  Seriously.  :)

  1. does stuffy and pretentious result from insecure egomania???

  2. ps link this morning going to ‘page not found’ awwww….talk about frustrated instant gratification! lol

  3. 47whitebuffalo, sorry about the link–this post is old and NaNoWriMo updates every year. Here’s a link to the NEW NaNoWriMo “You know you’re writing literary fiction when..”thread. I haven’t had a chance to read most of it, but I’m sure it’s as funny as it has been in years past.

As far as your question about stuffy and pretentious, whose insecure egomania are you referring to–the literary writers in question or mine? :)

I wrote this post quite a while ago when I was annoyed about a possibly imaginary slight from a couple of writers/editors that I had dealings with. My perspective has changed somewhat since then, but I haven’t removed this post because I find it amusing and also a tiny bit true.

  4. ha! the literary writers you referenced.
thanks for clarifying about the link–just was curious…yes, those tiny truths –still so telling they can be..
